Terminology Explained
Allocation
Allocation refers to the number of garments that are issued to an individual member
of staff. As a rule, Simon Jersey would suggest buying three sets-one for wearing,
one in the wash and one waiting. When companies skimp on this allocation, staff
will constantly be in a wash and wear cycles and uniforms will quickly start to
look shabby.
Badges
Badges are a simple and economical way to ensure customers can quickly identify
members of staff. Simon Jersey provides standard or custom made badges, both in
durable plastic. Standard badges are available in a choice of five colours, whilst
custom made badges can be virtually any colour, size, shape or font type, with a
minimum order of 50. See the catalogue for more info.
Bespoke
Simon Jersey's bespoke service is a made-to-measure range specially designed for
an individual company. Bespoke clothing, due to economies of scale, is not usually
a cost-effective option for companies that have less than 100 wearers.
Care Instructions
Simon Jersey has produced comprehensive instructions on how to care for your garments;
these are available in the catalogue and the website, and include a guide to the
care symbols on Simon Jersey garments.
Continuity
All Simon Jersey's garments and designers are guaranteed to stay in the range for
the life of the catalogue, which allows you re-order or add to your existing uniform
requirement.
Corporate colours
Unique to Simon Jersey is the distinctive corporate colours pages at the front of
the catalogue. This section of the catalogue provides inspiration and guidance on
creating a complete corporate image with pages displaying coordinated uniform ranges
in the season's hottest colours.

Distributors
Simon Jersey has distributors in 25 countries, ensuring worldwide delivery.
Drape
This term refers to the way a garment falls when worn it is affected by the finishing
of the garment and the type of fabric.
Embroidery
Embroidery is an eye-catching and economical way to add logos, motifs and names
to almost any part of a garment. It's durable and with advance in technology, virtually
any design can be replicated onto virtually any part of the garment. Unlike a name
badge, embroidery can't be lost, it's washable, and it doesn't add significant cost
onto the finished garment.
Fabric performance
Stringent garment and fabric performance tests are carried out in-house and by accredited
independent laboratories. Simon Jersey continually tests batches of fabric for shade
continuity, fell and construction to ensure that subsequent deliveries match the
original fabric.
Fit for purpose
Uniforms and corporate wear are more durable than street wear- they are designed
to be worn every day, in potentially tough work environments, and they are designed
to last a significant amount of time, therefore corporate wear specialists will
use more resilient fabrics that are fit for purpose, whereas high street clothing
is designed to be worn occasionally and will not last the rigours of a working environment.
Guarantee
Simon Jersey offers no - quibble guarantee, just send everything back within 30
days (paperwork included) and there will be no charge.
Handle
The term 'handle' refers to the feel of a garment. The handle of corporate wear
fabrics can be enhanced using different finishes, such as emerising, which creates
a smooth top surface.
Lab dye
This technique determines the correct make-up of a dye to match a specific pantone
colour on a particular fabric - the three colours used are cyan, magenta and yellow.
There are specific dyestuffs for different fabrics, in order to ensure colours match
on different garments throughout a range.

Pilling
Pilling is the technical term for the small bobbles that develop on garments. It

With the totally managed or bespoke services, three sets of sealed samples are made
before production starts. One is sent for client approval, one set is assigned manufacturer
so that the garments matched against the original samples throughout production,
and the third set is for Simon Jersey so that we can guarantee the finished article
will adhere to our strict quality standards.
Screen printing
Screen printing is the deal method of getting a bold promotional message onto items
such as t-shirts and aprons. Designs using special links are heat pressed onto garments
over a number of layers, there are a number of different types of transfers, including
high-visibility, retro-reflective and flame retardant and recent innovations mean
they can be printed in high resolution to reproduce fine detail.
