The Contemporary Beauty Tunic
Oct 2010
We'll be the first to admit that Simon Cowell has never been shy when it comes to giving out his pearls of wisdom. However when he recently advised a hopeful girl group to resist the temptation of dressing in matching outfits we couldn't help but sit up and take notice. Because although Mr Cowell was speaking in regards to what's hot in the pop charts, it rang true in reference to the beauty world too – in particular choosing a new beauty tunic for your team.
Cast your mind back to the pop stars in days gone bye. Head to toe co-ordination was a big look in the 80s. Bananarama, Mel and Kim and Bros were some of the biggest offenders. Even 90s phenomenon's Take That, Boyzone and All Saints were partial to a spot of the matching look from time to time. But things have changed. The big news in today's music industry is all about showing your personality, and of course where the music industry goes it's not long before the fashion and beauty worlds follow suit.
So when it comes to co-ordinating your staff in the latest beauty tunic this throws up something of a problem – especially if you want to keep the polished look of a unified team dressed in your corporate colours. After all you don't want your salon filled with identical members of staff with no individuality.
One way to overcoming this problem is to dress your team in the same style of beauty uniforms, while choosing from a range of complimentary shades within your corporate colour palette. Slate grey and hot pink are a great example of contrasting colours that work together well so too is chocolate brown and light olive, another way to wear this trend. Take your business logo as your starting point and look at colours that will enhance, clash and compliment your brand. You could even seek the advice of a colour specialist on ways to do this.
Alternatively you could look at choosing different styles of beauty tunic for your team members and a subtle way to showcase individuality. There's a huge variety of designs to choose from starting with the classic asymmetrical tunic. Pretty ballerina wraparounds, kimono style collars, ribbon tie fastening and single button clasps are just some of the other options available to you. This is an effortless way to co-ordinate your team and suits a salon that likes to be understated and chic at all times.
Finally, why not experiment with your accessories and separates to compliment your essential beauty tunic. From hair accessories to shoes, design details to stylish scarves, there's a wealth of options to add a touch of personality to your beauty tunic. And don't forget what you wear it with counts too. Trousers come as flat fronts, flares and cropped and skirts can be straight, pleated or A line. The options are almost endless. If only everything Mr Cowell had to say made quite as much sense!
